Born in Ehime, Japan, Yu Kinutani went on to study Art Education at the Ehime University. After working as an assistant to a professional comic artist for a short period, he went on to create his own titles. 'Shion' was his first major success. He subsequently created 'Angel Arm', 'Layla & Rei' and 'White Dragon'. Yu cites artists Katsuhiro Otomo, Hayao Miyazaki and Moebius as his strongest influences.
